Has anybody ever heard of "Hentz Art" with regard to jewelry? And if so, could you, please enlighten me? Thanks

are you refering to Heinz art metals? they were well know and respected metal artists of the A&C period. their work is highly collectable.

Heintz Art Metal Shop was founded by Otto Heintz during the first part of the 20th century and created wonderful items in Bronze and decorated the surfaces with applied sterling silver cutouts.

Jewelry by this company was made in the same fashion and is not marked with the diamond shaped logo enclosing the cojoined letters HAMS.

The company that Don refers to is the Smith Metal Arts Company and was formed by one of the Heintz's salesman Fred Smith when Otto Heintz died. Smith copied much of the work of his competitor Heintz work and persuaded many of Heintz's former workers to leave with him when he formed his own company. Smith was able to survive the Stock Market crash and is still producing items for the office environment.

@don szymanski @FZweig

Thanks to both of you.
Someone offered a brooch of non-silver metal
of an unusual, plain but attractive design (no gems) which seems to originate from 1870-1880. He told it comes from England and might be from "Hentz Art". That's what he wrote. Now I am almost sure it is just a typing error and should read "Heintz Art". As he wants to sell it for 120 US dollars I thought it better to collect some information.
Kind regards.

If you post or send me an image I would gladly review it and let you know if I think it is Heintz. I would check results of current online auction results to see what these pins are demanding before I paid top dollar for it.

The images you sent are of an etched copper pin with silver plating on the raised surfaces and not made by Heintz. The clasp on the back is not consitent those used by Heintz.
