I think personalized jewelry is a wonderful idea. With this, each piece of jewelry made will be different and a reflection of the personality of the one wearing it! A lot of online jewelers are catering especially to this segment. You can decide what metal you want the jewelry to be made in,the -- link removed -- you want in it , the design and any number of specifications you want! What do you think about it? Appealing?

Hello Catherleen,
Welcome to the Arts and Crafts Society forums and we hope that this will not be your first and last visit.

I feel as you, that personalized pieces are something that would be a reflection of the person wearing it, however some might feel that the personalized piece to be something other than a reflection of the person wearing it.

I have heard and seen some folks who actually turn their noses up in reaction of a person who is wearing a piece that has been personalized for the person wearing it. Especially when it is made by a named jeweler who might be a master in his/her craft and presented the piece as a nice gesture of appreciation of the person who they presented it to.

Respectfully,

Ralph Jones

Custom jewelry is a very important part of the jewelry trade and that of the studio jeweler. Is this leading to something dealing with the Arts & Crafts Movement?

The Movement was filled with jewelry made for a specific client and much was monogramed or designed in a motif to the specific needs of the buyer.

Ralph, I do not understand why anyone would worry whether a piece was made specifically for someone.
