Be sure to read the latest issue of Style 1900. Dave Kornacki has written an excellent article about one of the more famous influential metalsmiths of the Roycroft community.

"The Secret Life of Karl Kipp
A Collector Traces the Surprising Origins of Roycroft’s Master Metalworker"

It is rare that we are able to glimpse into the life of these craftsmen and we owe a debt to those who spend the time and resources to document and publish this information for our enjoyment and learning.

My hats off to Dave.

Best,
Fred

I found that article very interesting as well Fred. I would like to read more stories like that in the periodicals about the craftsmen who create all these things were collect and enjoy. Who knew the story behind Karl and his somewhat shady past and nice that the Fra gave him an opportunity and that he has sense enough to run with that opportunity!

Funny you posted this. I just picked up the magazine and read the article last night. After seeing the Wanted poster of Kipp, I think I giggled goofily in anticipation of reading the article (luckily no one else was near!). This is the stuff that really gets me going (and I guess most of us). The article is well written and fills and huge hole in our knowledge of this great metalsmith's life.

I look forward to more great and informative articles about my arts and crafts "heroes."
