Fred Brosi was first recorded in directories as a salesman in1907 abd later joined with Hans Jauchens to open Ye Olde Copper Shop in San Francisco. He went on to become president of Old Mission Koppercraft.
The use of eucalyptus leaves and pods was a commond design theme for the shops of both Jauchens and Brosi. The advertising literature of the time mentions that the bronze pods are cast from real pods collected at the park. I haves seen several items with this motif. Bookends, letter openers, candlesticks, vases and bowls of various sizes. I own an unsigned budvase that I cherish. The patina on this piece is wonderful. Often the leaves are more heavily patinated in a sumptuous green. His work appears in Isak Lindenauer's book on August Tiesselinck - a lifetime in metal (1890-1972). There are auction catalogues that appear with the work by both Brosi and Jauchens. There work is very desirable and usually commands a high price. I see that the seller has the same reference book as I have. Here is a link to a previous post on a Jauchens bowl. http://forum.arts-crafts.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/9886045532/m/9321091303 Fred Fred (Moderator) http://fredz49.blogspot.com/ |

Thanks Fred.
I was completely taken in by the patina and the leaves on that bowl. L. |
