Love these "seed pod" type plates from the Brothers, Fred you mentioned that Ebay had three of these listed, I bid on two of the three but was outbid already, as you said the price would go up. This is not copper, too light I think and has a brasswash finish, which is why I was tring for the ones on ebay.

I have the #17 like the one on eBay. What diameter is this tray?

Hi Fred, The plate is 7 and 1/8 inches, any idea what that mark is off to the right of the 16? it looks like a mis-strike of 1/8. What do you think?

I think you are right Dan. It does look as of it is a miss strike. Is the tray copper or brass? It looks to be yellowish.

It is brass or possibly tin with a brasswash finish? Its very light which was why I wanted to replace it with that #17 on ebay. Why do you suppose it would be 16 1/8 for a number on this piece?

My 17 tray is also lightweight and measures 7" exactly. The same tray on ebay measure 6 3/4". It seems that they came in several different weights depending on what was available to work with. I have corresponded with other collectors and they have #17 trays that are of a heavier gauge than mine.
Not sure what the 1/8 stood for. I doubt if your tray is tin with brass wash. It could be copper with a brass wash. I am not certain I have seen brass pieces before and I am certain yours is authentic and a treasure. Perhaps the 1/8 stood for the finish. Best, Fred (Moderator) http://fredz49.blogspot.com/ |

I see the three trays on eBay sold in the $250 to $330 range and the #17 demanded the highest price.

I was not the winner on any of them. Too rich for me these days! Think I will stick to falling into lucky finds...

Greetings Gentlemen,
I have returned from my sojourn to Arts and Crafts meccas in western NY state (will comment on elsewhere) and noticed this interesting forum. I wanted to expand the topic a little and have responded to this forum in a new topic at http://forum.arts-crafts.com/e...=774108101#774108101. I have posted an image of what I am discussing here. A slightly revised version of that discussion is also available at http://www.flickr.com/photos/6...912/with/3603498725/ Best Regards, Copperoak ![]() |

Mohawk,
I originally thought that the mis-strike was that of a 2 (see other forum) but upon closer inspection it does indeed look like an 8. This has got to be a No. 16 1/2 -- I suspect that the metal worker picked up the incorrect number to stamp it with! Copperoak |
