Rico,
Is this a vase you own? If so it is quite the desirable piece. The items with nickle silver decorations are high on the list of collectors. Can you show us close-ups of the decoration? Thanks, Fred (Moderator) http://fredz49.blogspot.com/ |

Rico,
These cylinder vases are very desirable and usually demand high prices. There construction used sections of copper pipe and these were mounted onto steel mandrels that allowed the craftsman to chase the design onto the surface of the vase. The hammered texture would have been previously carfully applied with controlled hammer blows. The top and bottom rim of the vase was then necked down and the base plate inserted and then brassed to the vase. The brown patina would then be applied and the textured recess in this vase have green paint applied to simulate verdigris. This vase has a recessed base plate that was created by first punching an ashtray like tray and then inverting it so that it fit within the interior diameter of the bottom lip of the vase. With close examination you might be able to detect a visible silver solder seam. The finest of these vases were made by Walter Jennings and show a particularly keen sense of design and execution.
