i had the opportunity to meet and briefly talk with ron vanostrand at GPI. he said he is an occasional lurker in this forum. in an attempt to lure and engage, i will ask several questions on coppersmithing techniques.
1. when using copper tubing/pipe to make a vase, what king of anvil/armature is used to support the piece while hammering? or is a pitch bowl used? 2. is anealing necessary to get a uniform material? |

Don,
I am not certain what Ron uses when he works a cylinder vase. I have a solid rod of steel that loosely fits inside the copper pipe. Chasing tools are used to decorate the pipe and a snarling iron is used to bump out from the inside. The base is attached at the end. Here is a short vase that I use to hold my chasing tools.
