This was the piece I found that had been polished on the face but the remains of the original patina was on the back which I know to be genuine. Michael Ashford from evergreen again restored the finished. The cross and orb are on the front rather than the back and is off center, almost seems like an afterthought.
What do you think Fred?

An interesting piece and I suspect it is Roycroft. The fact that the signature is not centered is not an issue.

Best,

Dan: Here is the same tray with the mark centered, more or less, on the front. Some of these earlier pieces were not as precise as the later stuff, which I like. That could explain the off-centered mark. BTW, Roycroft put the mark on the front of several of its early pieces. Rob

Hi Rob, Thanks for the image, it looks better than mine but then yours has an original patina. I was only slightly peeved that the mark was off center. I also like when things are not quite perfect.
