Can anyone please tell me how to remove the fake blue verdegris from a solid brass door knocker? I've never done anything like this before and I'm afraid I'll ruin the brass if I start experimenting. Thanks very much.

Connie,

"Fake Verdigris" is it paint? Paint can be safely removed with a paint solvent and then the knocker can be polished.

If a chemical patina has been applied then you may need to dip it in warmed vinegar for a short period and then perhaps use a mild abrasive powder such as fine pumice.

Can you post an image? You will need to register as a member.
