I was researching this pair of Roycroft candlesticks on E-Bay.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2301...e=2#ebayphotohosting

I compared them to the a photo of another pair of 8 inch candlesticks from the Roycroft Online Price guide put up by David Komancki. He says that if you are going to buy a pair of these candlesticks in the brass finish, they should look like this.

http://www.roycroftcopper.com/brasssticks6inch.jpg

Well, I was comparing the two images, I noticed that the E-bay photo has the same exact background. Then, I discovered that the photo even had the same crease marks in the back drop. (Bad sign.)

All of the other E-bay photos are out of focus with a different background. The seller has a rating of 99.1%--not wonderful. The bid is at $103 dollars now. According to David Komancki they are worth around $300 to $600 in great shape. With the photos out of focus, who knows what kind of shape they are in?

Buyer beware. I was getting ready to bid on them again and wanted to see what their value was according to David Komancki's pricing guide. I will not bid again on them.

Bev,

Great job! I might suggest going to Dave's and letting him know. If you like, I will email the Roycroft site and tell him what you have found.

Dear Fred,

Thanks. I was just doing some research to see how much they were worth. By sheer luck, I discovered that they were the same photos.

I tried to get on the Roycroft site. I have to petition and wait for the moderator to accept me. If you could E-mail the Roycroft site to let them know, I would be very grateful. I would hate to see a collector pay full price and discover that their new Roycroft candlesticks really don't look like the posted photo.

It is just not ethical to use another person's photograph like that. Last night, I was going to make a real effort to determine how much I thought it could cost me to buy them. I was lucky to stumble on the original photo before it cost me money.

Bev,

The first image appears to be the one on David's site. The seller has povided additional images that appear to be of the actual stick he has.

On average most folks find the brass plated copper ware less desirable.

Hey guys,

I just got this note from E-bay:

The seller ended this listing early because of an error in the listing.

I checked it out and the bidding ended at zero. No one was obligated to buy the candlesticks. The seller did the right thing.
