Benedict Studios of Syracuse, New York were prolific manufacturers of copper and brass items in the Arts & Crafts Movement and later manufactured items in Greek, Egyptian, Mayan and Assyrian revival motifs. Your box falls into this later production. Often the items had cast metal decoration and little or no hammering on the surface. I suspect your box dates to the 20's or 30's.
I suggest you check out the website dedicate to the Benedict and other Syracuse metalsmiths of the era. http://www.benedictstudio.com/ It would be nice to see an image of your box. Fred (Moderator Fred (Moderator) http://fredz49.blogspot.com/ |
