It has a mark that looks like jh..The h is connected the j at the left..I love the design..I think it may be Julia Hoffman? I love how it really looks like arts and crafts..It is cut out brass over sterling with etchings in the silver..The cut out look like an iris or some type of bulbous flower,,It's a cuff bracelet. I wear it 24/7. If the initials sound familiar, I wouls love to know who would make such a beautiful thing..

sterling cuff

Hi and welcome to the forum,

I suspect your bracelet is not from the Arts & Crafts Movement and is probably more Modernist or perhaps even newer. Interesting texture in the silver background. I am not familiar with Julia Hoffman.

Perhaps a site that specializes in Modernist or contempory jewelry would be more productive.

Best,

Hi, Thank you for your response...Julia Hoffman was i beleive a co-founder in the Arts and craft movement in Portland Oregon. Then she moved to Boston and was affiliated with The Society of arts and crafts there...I was hoping this was one of her pieces because no one knows her..But I was just hoping....It's definetly from the turn of the century, 20th...
and it's hand made ..but never the less..I love it whatever the case..Thank you

Welcome to the forum rocky.

I do not know if Julia Hoffman worked in metal or if this is her mark, but I will definitely do some more research into it.

Fred, there was an article recently about her in the Oregon Historical Quarterly -Dec 08.

Here is a link to the article: Julia Hoffman.

I now have a definitive answer to the question: Was Julia Hoffman a metalworker and the answer is a resounding yes. I have just seen a beautiful sterling footed bowl made by her and a collection of her metalworking tools which are owned by the Oregon College of Art & Craft. The pieces are on tour with the exhibition: The Arts and Crafts Movement in the Pacific Northwest which is at the Museum of History and Industry in Seattle (http://www.seattlehistory.org/)

Unfortunately, I couldn't see the mark on the bowl so no answer on that. Perhaps you could contact the college.
