Clemens Friedell Tray

History at Chicago Silver

LA Times Article
"Friedell went on to become one of the most talented silversmiths of his generation. He could craft whatever a customer ordered and could depict everything from a California poppy to a polo pony with the greatest of accuracy. Stylistically, he was one of the early pioneers of the California Craftsman movement."

This might be interesting to watch..

Friedell worked for Tiffany when he was in New York and was one of the craftsmen producing their Martelle line of handwrought and chased holloware. Examples of his jewelry are exquisite.

This paneled bowl may not command as much as you might think since it is rather plain. I own a simple Fiedell bowl and paid little money for it.

Best,

I've been watching the auctions of his work and someone is trying to sell a very elaborate set with fruit on it--cherries, I think. >10k. This is a very plain piece, and just like the spoons in the previous post, I'm wondering if someone will just have to have this or if it will go for very little.

Currently on eBay is a pair of exquisite candlelabras and centerpiece chased and repoussed in the finest manner. Sold through the Lauren Stanley Gallery in New York City.

Friedell pieces

These are a real tour de force.

These along with several other Friedell were offered by John Moran Auctioneers in California. Each of the pieces were well worth owning if you had the monies to spend.

For 48 grand, I'd rather have a really nice Van Erp lamp. The workmanship in those examples is great, but the design is kind of garish, in my opinion.

Boy was I off. Cherries---Fuschia... Mixed it up with some Kalo jewelery that I'd been coveting.

That's the set I've been watching. It's been re listed a few times. Way too elaborate for me. I do like the Coffee set at the museum though.
