Today I ran across a home for sale in San Diego and it was described as a Cotswold Bungalow. This one is new to me and not much information in google. Is anyone familiar with this style of bungalow?

It's an interesting house and certainly a bungalow by common definition. The Cotswold designation is a real estate affectation, I think. The clipped gable (sometimes called a jerkinhead) and the slight roll of the roof edge suggest the "thatched" style roof that was common among the English Revival style houses built during the 20s and 30s.
An English Cotswold cottage or bungalow is usually going to have a much steeper roof pitch and be more "storybook" than this house ... more than likely with stone, stucco, or brick siding. There are other characteristics most of which this house lacks. The porch may be a more recent addition. The columns seem very unsubstantial for a bungalow built during the 1920s. Of course they might have been replaced. There was a rash of column replacements during the 50s and 60s when people took out their Craftsman columns and replaced them with wrought iron. I'd call it a cottage-style bungalow with English flavoring, but a Cotswold it's not. Check out "Cotswold Cottage" or "Storybook style" to get better sense of what it is. Rikki |
