i just want to get people looking and responding and get the african decor off the forum.
is there a larger group of folks that look for or have more than general interest in kit homes? a kit homes society? just curious. it would be great to see what other are doing, finding. also seeing actual photos of houses might make it easier to identify than catalog drawings. just a thought |

I agree with you Don. Do the Mods have the ability to move posts to appropriate sub-forums?

The mods can 'move' and 'delete'. I have access to the Furniture section and try to keep it squeaky clean and on topic. Fred and Ralph have access to everything else, and they should be deleting stuff as they see it, so it's just a question of when they are logged on and picking stuff up. I know this section has "Schweitzer" noted as the mod but I have never seen any posts from him/her |

Stonecat, thanks for the info.
Don Szymansky, I've contacted a fellow in Sask. who keeps a personal list of Aladdins in Canada. hopefully he has the time to join up and share his knowledge. |

Oh man, how I wish there were a Kit Homes Society. I get so many emails from folks wanting information and wanting individual questions answered. Gathering all these folks together into one place where info could freely be exchanged would probably be very beneficial for all parties.
And problem number two is, there are too many people out there calling themselves "experts" who really don't know what they're doing. I've gone into countless communities that hired a "professional" to find their Sears kit homes, only to find that they're calling every Cape Cod a Sears Attleboro and every bungalow a Sears Vallonia. Wish there was a way to protect unsuspecting communities and individuals from self-proclaimed experts. A Kit House Society might be a good start for this, and a first step toward organizing people and disseminating, distributing and sharing accurate information. Were I more computer literate I would set up a registry for Aladdin homes, perhaps in the near future after retirement. Problem is identifying old houses isn't a paying job so you will always be dealing with "enthusiasts". I could identify an Aladdin Wabash a mile away but I have good provenance and mine is original. Given alterations to original plans and subsequent renovations other models would be difficult to validate but any effort is a step forward.

i think you are still off topic. the link you provided is for new builders and redirection to othere commercial sites.
this forum is for the discussion and study of kit houses built during the Arts and Crafts Movement of the early 1900s, primarily sears, aladdin, montgomery ward and gordon van tine. i doubt you will get much response here. |
