I have been searching everywhere for the name of our 1930 Montgomery Ward Home. We have the original blueprints but nowhere does it reference the name of the home. We are interested in adding on to our home as well as changing the front walkway and it would be helpful to see other homes with the same name. Anyone recognize the name of our home? THANKS!!

I guess the guy with catalog pages of all the MontWard models taped to his office walls should comment.

The house apppears to be a customized Plymouth, a pre-cut model offered 1930 and 1931. Montgomery-Ward encouraged home buyers to customize their order, in this case adding three small accent windows in the entrance gable. They also encouraged cutomers to move walls and doors, so the interior floorplan may not be exact match.

The house appears to be largely unaltered since it was built as it has its original cedar shingle exterior and round top door with hammered iron hardware. The Plymouth was very popular and I know of many examples, although none are as nice as this residence.

Blueprints? Wow, Montgomery-Ward blueprints are incredibly rare to find as the customer was required to return them to MontWard after construction was completed. The homeowner could purchase the blueprints for $25 to $50 but few did.

Where in Michigan is this house? I am working on a book regarding MontWard homes and this house should be included as it is so original and unique.

kjedj,

I will be up in Michigan for the holidays this November and December, staying at my house in Oxford. We are still looking for custom designed Wardway Homes for an upcoming book. If you are interested in allowing me to take some pictures ofr house please email me at ikcilow@yahoo.com

Thanks
