I just purchased a 1915 home in Nebraska. I have been unable to identify it as a kit home. Has anyone seen this home design? It has 6 Arts and Crafts stained glass leaded windows and built-ins. I included photos in Flickr at:

Bendee,
What a beautiful home! I am no expert but it resembles the Sears Phoenix. Perhaps Rosemary will drop in and give an expert opinion. Sincerely, Ersela |

If that isn't a phoenix, then I am a hamster!
The decorations in the stucco match, the front and one side windows are a spot on match. The catalog pic shows stained glass in the front bedroom and in the dining room. It also shows the stained glass in the foyer. "Stucco exterior...glazed front door with beveled glass...fireplace in living room...sliding doors between living and dining room...console with mirror in parlour...open stairs" That's from House's by Mail. The plans don't show your bay window though but the customer could always make changes to the plans to suit their needs. Your first living room is listed as a parlour. The phoenix was available from 1911-1918. That is one heck of a house!!! Donna |

Ben,
Here is a the Sears Modern Home No. 160 or The Phoenix from my 1916 catalog. Lucky you, it's a great looking place. Lauren |

Wow! That is diffently a Sears Phoenix. I an exact match to the illustration in the catalog. You might want to ask the Sears Lady at www.SearsHomes.org for her opinion.

Wow, I am glad I asked. My wife and I fell in love with the house the first time we saw it. And, it is on a lot that is over a 1/2 acre which fills our gardening needs. It will need some restoring but it is a solid home. There is carpet to pull out and restore the wood floors. The floors are oak on the first level and pine on the second level. There is also some ceiling texturing I want to remove. Thanks so much for all the information.
