Hey All,

After reading Rose's books(and others), I've been looking for Sears Kit houses in Beckley, WV. I found my first Sears house! It is a pretty little Sunbeam. Hope these links work:

I have definitely been bitten by the kit house bug! I have heard that there are other kit houses in the area and will hunt them down as time allows.

Anyone else searching your neighborhoods for kit houses?

Sincerely,
Ersela

Isn't hunting fun!? I search the greater Cincinnati and Northern Ky area frequently. Even my girl scouts can identify some sears homes, since I've been known to take little "detours" when we are going places!!

Great Sunbeam, original siding!

It's a whole lot of fun, isn't it? I'm living on the East Coast now and making all sorts of fun new discoveries.

I just found a Sears Americus a half-mile from my own home (where I've lived for a few months now). I can hardly believe that I missed that baby before!

Hi Donna,
You are only 94 miles from me up here in London, Ohio and should you ever come up this way drop into my shop and I will take you on a tour around London for you to see some of th Arts and Craft homes here as well as a Sears house at Madison Lake just 4 miles from my home.

During the downtown renovations there were a lot of pieces of trim that I made to replace the ones that had been destroyed over the years.

Here are a few of my corbels at the end of this post.

Respectfully,

Ralph Jones

Here is another picture you may also like and I installed the entire house trim myself.

Respectfully,

Ralph

You know, I suspect that Ohio *may* be the place that has some little city somewhere with a GREAT number of Sears kit homes. Ohio had several "Sears Modern Homes Sales Centers" in the 1920s and Ohio also had the Norwood (Sears) Mill.
