Hello All!
My fiancee and I are buying an 86 year old home. My aunt says it looks like a Sears kit home. Having done some research now I agree that it does look like a Sears kit home. I just can't find one that looks exactly like it. How would I find out if it really is one? I'm going to try and include the picture as an attachment, but I don't know if I really know how to do it. Wish me luck.... Tess |

Hello Tess,
Go to your local County Auditor's Office and find the plat book it is in, then go to records and they can help you research the history all the way back to the first owners and there may be some information that will help you in your search. I personally searched out homes here in my location to aid them in the history of the house and or property. Respectfully, Ralph Jones http://hometown.aol.com/ralj7/index.htm |

Tess,
A picture would be great. There are people here that can help, if they can see the house. Knowing what year it was built can narrow it down too. You can click the link that says " Add Attachment?" at the bottom of the reply box. One thing that I have noticed is that some people call all kit and mail order houses a "Sears House". There were a lot of companies making kit houses and one place you might look for a sample of all of them is here. The kit home makers are: Aladdin, Bennett, Harris Brothers, Wardway, Gordon Van Tine, Liberty/Lewis, Sterling, and of course Sears. Lauren |
