How would I go about finding out who built our house, or who the stonemason was? I have checked all around the outside of the house, cornerstones and such, but can find no markings or stamps. Would there be any markings inside, maybe in the basement?

Would there have been copies of the blueprints or plans filed with the county in the 1920's? Any other records that I could look into?

We did do some sleuthing yesterday and took lots of pictures. I will post them to photobucket when I find time. I did find a stamp at the corner of the rock wall, but haven't been able to make out the lettering yet. I know the wall was standing before the house was built, so it could have been built by two different stonemasons. Here is a pic that shows the rock wall:

Also, I have loose bricks that were used to build the house. They are stamped "Carlyle". Anyone ever heard of a brick company by that name?

Thanks to all who have responded to the questions of a newbie. Your help has been invaluable.

Thanks,

Ersela
