After a few years of research I have concluded that my 1928 bungalow is not a kit home, but rather it was built from a pattern/plan book. There are 3 homes just like mine, with slight variations, in my village. I also think I've identified another home in the same community built by the same builders during the same time frame, and I think it is the "Crestline" from the 1927 Home Builders Catalog Co pg 1107 [this home is similar to Sears Belmont (1932 to 1933)--the brick flipped floorplan of the Lynnhaven (1932 to 1937)]. I happened to find just that page online. There is at least one double of that house in town as well. I am hoping that my bungalow is in that 1256 page catalog too, but I can't find a copy of it anywhere. Does anyone have the 1927 Home Builders Catalog Co, and if so, would you be willing to look for my bungalow? I could send pictures to you via email.

We have the 1928 version of that book in the Antique Home/Arts & Crafts Library. Please post the pictures of your house, and we'd be glad to scan the house plan and post it here for you.

Thank you for the offer Lauren! Please excuse the incomplete paint job and lack of landscaping--this is a DIY work-in-slow-progress. If you stumble upon the Crestline model and are willing to scan that image as well, I'd be curious to verify that I have the right information about that house as well. Thank you so much!

Hi Lauren,
I thought a description may be helpful if a few bungalows in the catalog look like this from the exterior: There are 5 rooms and one full bath. When facing the front of the house, the kitchen is in the right back corner, dining room in the back left corner, and the living room is across the entire front, with the semi-open staircase on the right side of that room. Upstairs, the front is one bedroom with 2 closets (one one each side of the dormer), similar to the bedroom in the back. The bathroom is upstairs toward the back, where the top window in the first picture is located. Please let me know if you need more information. Thank you again! Carrie |

Sorry Carrie, about taking so long.
I did a quick check, and the 1928 book has no house plan named "Crestline" and the house on the page number you mention is very different from your house. I haven't had time to do more investigation this week. Perhaps someone else has the book from 1927. I'll try to get back to it when I can. Lauren |

Hi Lauren,
Thank you for checking! I think the Crestline is a different brick house in town and I was just curious about that plan. I have no idea what plan my house is, but I will keep searching. I am trying to find a library that will lend their 1927 plan book. Thanks again! Carrie |

I was able to find someone with the 1927 home builders catalog and she indicated that my home was not included in that year either. Thank you everyone for your help!

Hilda -
You're no dummy! It's a huge book and we haven't scanned it or posted anything from it! Is there something in particular you'd like me to look up? I can do that. Just let me know. Rikki |

Hilda,
Your local library should have access to a database indicating which institutions have what you are looking for. I was able to find 2 with the 1927 Home Builders Catalog within 50 miles of me. Bob |
