There are two two-story gambrel roof houses in Tampa that look like Lucernes to me, but with two windows in the upstairs dormers, and with additions in the rear. What do you guys think? Are they Sears houses? These houses are right next to each other, with the same design.

ldjones,
Welcome to the forum. I am not able to see your photo for some reason. Perhaps you need to make it public? Lauren |

Hey-
I think I have a Lucerne also, in Marysville, OH. Can you get me more info on the Tampa homes? I can send you a pic of mine. |

Here'a a link to my home- it's for sale, and I think it's a Sears home.

LSmith3,
Welcome to the forum. I've looked at the house and it doesn't match up to the image on the other post. Windows in the wrong places, entry with no closet, stairs coming right down next to the front door. And if your house was actually built in 1900, like it says in the ad - then the dates are off too. Sears put out it's first catalog of homes in 1908. The Lucerne was available from 1908 to 1918. Lauren |

Thanks for the reply. The ad states 1900, but this was my realtor's best estimate- The earliest records indicate someone living here in 1916. We don't actually have a record of when it was built. It has many features in the interior that I have seen in the catalogs- stairpost, column, and my previous front door had detailing around a glass pane that is shown in the catalog. Doors have fancy handlesets also shown in the catalog. There are many homes in the area that are actual replicas of the kit homes- and we are close to a railroad, of course! The previous owner had told me they thought it was a Sears home. The windows have all been replaced, of course. Could it be a kit home from another source? I know at one time Rosemary Thornton had emailed me sharing that it may be a Lucerne with a different interior- she said it depended on the 'footprint' of the home.
{Spliced on from another thread} I believe mine is closely modeled after the Lucerne- has some interior features from the catalog-trimwork, column, and detailing around doors. However the floorplan varies from that of the Lucerne. Any chance? Here's a link to mine.. (see above) |

Hello L Smith 3,
Since you live in Marysville and I live in London all you have to do is to come to London and I will show you how to find the information you speak of. I could tell you here but it is rather a drawn out thing and would take too much space on the forum to address it here. You may contact me via email @ Ralj7@AOL.com and I will give you my cell number that we might converse over the phone before you come to London. All you have to do is take St. Rt. 38 directly to London. Respectfully, Ralph Jones http://hometown.aol.com/ralj7/index.htm |
