I've just started reading this fabulous book by William Morris. It's a utopian socialist fantasy about a the future set in the early years of the 21st century! What I've found particularly interesting is that it's an extremely optimistic book (as opposed to the apocalyptic futures envisioned by most authors).
Morris sees the future as an Arts and Crafts inspired paradise where money is a thing of the past and people work because they take pleasure in honest labour. And of course, all the architecture is organic and blends beautifully into the landscape. Has anyone else read this? What are your thoughts? |

Meggie, I have not read the book but I found that it has been digitized and can be read or downloaded as a pdf from Google. News From Nowhere I've added it to my library and am looking forward to checking it out. Thanks Lauren |

News from Nowhere is also available through Project Gutenberg for free, if you don't mind reading it online (though I definitely prefer to read books on paper!).
I hope you enjoy it! Margaret |
