Good Morning Friends,
I had an appointment with a specialist doctor on the 4th of this month but when I arrived to his office I was told that he had an emergency operation. They stated that they could reschedule me or I could wait. After driving so far to get to his office I insisted on staying around for a while. I decided to go down town and found a half off book store. I found a book on Gustav Stickley by David Cathers and published by PHAIDON. I found some very interesting information about him and his family that I thought you all might find interesting, so in the up coming future I will pass on some of this information so that you might learn as well. I will not copy word for word on what was stated but will emphasize that they are excerpts from the book with quotation marks at the beginning and on the end so as not to infringe on their copyright. I will install the information in the Furniture Forums. Respectfully, Ralph Jones http://hometown.aol.com/ralj7/index.htm |

Gustav Stickley From the publisher: "One of the central aims of this book is to identify the creative individuals - artists, craftsmen, architects, writers, editors, and illustrators - who worked with Stickley and to give them the recognition they deserve; biographies of 17 collaborators are collected in an appendix. The book also includes a chronology of Stickley's life and career, a visual chronology of the evolution of the fall-front desk, and a complete bibliography." Ralph, Perhaps you could give us a short book review that we could place in the bookstore? Lauren |

Lauren,
At this time I have been rather busy building a Greene and Greene Arts and Crafts Sideboard Table and really haven't had a chance to read more than I already have but in the upcoming future I may just do as you suggested as there is so much to be learned from this book. I feel that the knowledge in this book is one to be told because knowledge isn't knowledge till it is passed on. Respectfully, Ralph Jones http://hometown.aol.com/ralj7/index.htm |
