I would like to construct craftsman style outdoor lamps made of mica supported by strips of brass sheeting. Does anyone know of sources for brass sheeting? What thickness would be appropriate? Any books/website/articles that describe making this style of lamp? Alternate material? It would seem to be fairly low tech... Thanks very much for the note on a source for mica sheets.

You're probably better off trying to find brass through your local yellow pages - Specialty Metals, or something like that, rather than a web source; you might even be able to just buy scrap pieces for next to nothing

WGALVIN,

Grizzly power tools (www.grizzly.com) also makes tools for metal working.. anyways, you can purchase smaller sheets of brass etc. from them... Another method you may check into is using aluminum.. It is easy to work with, and will not rust.. Put a thin coat of exterior poly on it to take away some of the sheen.. Not sure how well the poly would stick to it, but it is worth a shot... it would give more of a dull tin or lead look..
