This stained glass window now consisdered an art glass panel is a cumulation of many artistic concepts from the early 1900's.

Done in the geometric abstract (utilizing a copper foil wrap and zinc metal cames for support) one can see the usage of the American Arts and Crafts inconography the dragon fly.

Influences of Peit Mondriaan, the use of primary colours and his grid technique.

Louis Comfort Tiffany for its patened development of texture and vibrant colours and John Lafarge and his methods, techniques and formula for opalescent glass.

Stained glass at the turn of century is a lost art in that the characteristics of early 20th century stained glass the intensity of colour, texture and the methods used at the time is too dangerous (toxic)and it's illuminating light effects can not be reproduced.

Frank Lloyd Wright's personal geometric abstract of the sumac weed (a popular design)and his Prairie School of Architecture's idiom of using asian (japanese), and american indian styles and design influenced architecture and stained glass design in america.

A geometric abstract design simular to this one appeared in a 1916 catalogue of art glass shops and can be seen as decoration on many public and private structures in my area. Such as the Thorndale CTA Red Line Train Station which is done in the Prairie School Style c1920.

This style is truely American and Frank Lloyd Wright is the undisputed father and great master of the Prairie Style.

This stained glass (art glass panel) window is from a 1915 Chicago Bungalow. Upon close observation you can tell that each panel of glass was waxed and polished and looks simular to tile.

The texture of the glass on the backside is unwaxed and uneven due to the technology of making sheet glass on a table. I noticed on older stained glass pieces that I own that the back side becomes more uneven with lumps like cottage cheese with older pieces.

Depending on the time of day and the positioning of the sun this piece really lights up the back ground turn into glitter gold and some of the visual character of some panels contain what looks like hammering marks and Funny enough I see the roycroft mark in it's abstract.

The best stained glass in the early 20th century was made in Chicago. Proof of that is the Louis Comfort Tiffany stained glass ceiling in Marshal Field's downtown Chicago store ( a National Land Mark) and the many churches and private homes in the Chicago area just to mention few.
