Ok, what am I missing here on this eBay item?

eBay #120097729165

Obviously I'm out of the loop on something here information wise. It's just an empty metal lampshade frame for petesakes. Any reason that it would jump from $135 to over $1000 in the last few minutes?

Jeremy,

The shade is high quality and very well designed and made. I suspect if we do some research we may discover that it is recognizable as being made by a famous maker. I will check my books and see if I cannot attribute it to someone. The patina looks flawless and it will be easy to fit it with the appropriate glazing. It is also versital in that it can be fitted as a shade for a lamp or hung on a chain.

It could be a Tiffany. I no longer know Tiffany lamps by heart but the designs are very unique. It has that Tiffany Art Nouveau look to the skeleton of the shade. It would not be hard to recognize the orginal lamp once you saw the metal supports--if you knew the inventory.

I wish I had kept those Tiffany coffee table books. John La Farge was also awesome at stained glass--his windows will surprise you.I don't remember if he did lamps. There were so many great craftsman that did leaded, painted or stained glass lamps in the 1920's.

According to the auction description, the patina is just painted copper and needs touched up.

Someone must have recognized it as something rare, and due to the high price I'm very curious what it is.

I would guess Handel maybe. Checked some of the Limberts in a couple books but didn't see it.
