I recently purchased this light from a turn of the century resort on Lake Superior. It appears to have been factory manufactured (vs. artisan built). It has some soldered joints, but mostly thread/screw assembly. I know it is old (including the mica-seat 'Bryant' sockets). Original frosted bowl at bottom. Globes on arms may not be original/period. I can't find any manufacturer stamps or signatures. I know this is an old piece and may or may not be classified as A&C. Trying find anyone that has seen a similar fixture. The pedistal sink and tub in the resort were from 1876. There was a range of decades in the elements. The fixture drops 36" and is 36" across at arms. Nice proportions and craftsmanship. I'm just grasping for a thread to research.

P.S. I own an antique store in Two Harbors, MN and deal in old elements everyday...this is just a one-off that I can't put my thumb on.

Thanks for any ideas.

Wind at your back,

We're going to be moving to a new server and forum software so temporarily we are out of space for images.

John,

Welcome to this forum and thank you for posting the light. This is definately a puzzler. It does not look like anything I have ever seen. The copper frame indicates that the original globes must have been similar to the ones there now. One might be able to classify this as Arts & Crafts piece even if it were made by an established manufacturer. It has the look even if the method of assembly does not look familiar.

My gut feeling is that it was made in the 20's or 30's and was influenced by the A&C Movement.

I know that I will be searching my books to see if something along these lines turns up that might give us a clue to manufacturer and date.

Thanks Fred. There are some nice details inside the ring & globe structure as well. I can send some additional photos to Ms. Nyman for posting this evening if it would be helpful (or I'll try to learn more about this flickr process). Thanks again. John

Good Morning,
After a bit more research and fixture scrutiny, I'm convinced the Bryant mica-seat sockets are original and period. Suggesting the fixture is pre-1910. My guess is they salvaged the fixture and brought it to the cabin. Have a great holiday.

John,

I suspect that you are probably right about the sockets and that would lead us to conclude that it is an early lamp. Nice find. Thank you for sharing it with us.

A great holiday to you as well.
