I have recently purchased a beautiful painted milk glass lamp which has some ancient masking tape on it. I have used a warm rag and removed the paper portion, but the adhesive remains. Due to the old paint I am woried about using any cleaners. Any suggestions?
Also, does anyone have any recommendations for how to clean this lamp in the future? ![]() |

..neat lamp..but tough call on tape residue..DONT try shellac or lacquer thinners or rubbing alcohol or any funky new citrus solvents etc. because the paint could get dissolved by these..maybe try mineral spirits, but a small spot along the base rim first, just in case..maybe you just have to leave it and over the long term it will get brittle and you can carefully wipe/pick it off..cleaning, swiffer duster or feather duster, or lightly moistened cotton rag..

The image looks as if the base is a ceramic base with fire glaze. Have you removed the ovoid from the brass fittings to see if it is "Painted" under the base. This might be a good place to carefully test with solvents. It is a gorgeous lamp. Looks much like Saturday Evening Girl decoration. It would be great to see a closeup of the painting.
