Greetings all.

I've just come across an original Handel 3 socket table lamp with a hammered copper tulip overlay. Its been in storage for years and is dusty. Its signed on the base and shade and has no damage that I've noticed with fairly close inspection. I am not familiar with this type of slag glass, having a white interior, and wonder if any of you may be able to further my knowledge with any information. It has an fantastic arts and crafts look. I'd also like to determine approximate value, as I've only seen an example of this in a boudoir lamp in amber slag glass. Thanks! Rich

Very nice lamp indeed. I have no idea what you call that type of glass. In terms of value, I found this at Treadways

May 2005

213. Handel table lamp, Arts & Crafts form with hammered copper overlaid tulip design on cream colored glass, cleaned patina, base and shade signed, 18”dia. x 22”h, very good condition 1800-2200 , sold for 1800

...different glass and base, so maybe yours is a bit more given the unique glass..

No problem. Searching around, this would actually be a lower value Handel. Many Handels go a few to several thousand based on auction and shop prices - some over ten thousand. I think the difference, for the most part, is in the shade construction, i.e. leaded glass and reverse painted variations are more valuable. Slag glass in a frame is a little easier to construct so hence the lower (relative) value.

...follow up...

Here's a book on Handel metal overlay lamps. The pic of the open pages may in fact be the same shade.

Hi again Stonecat and all.

Yes, that looks like the shade, doesn't it?

There goes more $$ being spent to upgrade my reference library. Yours must be pretty amazing.

By the way, the lamp sold privately for just under twice the amount realized in your initial post in this thread.

Thanks again for your input and help.
