I just discovered the Arts & Crafts Movement this weekend, and fell in love with it. I'm currently living in a condo in Chicago and would like to make draperies for my 2 walls of windows. Can anyone recommend an online or Chicago source for affordable reproduction fabric?
Thank you. |

I think that's a big order. I know of a great fabric store in Lynn Mass. Just outside Boston. Zimmans of Lynn, they were around before the 1900's so I knew they would have what I wanted. Almost a dead on match for my Stickley and Streit chairs I have. They are online but I found searching for period fabric you have to see and feel it before buying.
I'm sure in the depths of the windy city you can find a real old purveyor of fabrics and they definitely will have something. Call some upholstery shops and ask them. Read some books on William Morris and Frank Loyd Wright and you'll get an idea of what is premier designer ideas. Search thne web too. You'll find stuff you will hate but it will be a perfect period fit, then you'll find stuff that's dead on and know you found the look you want. Good luck! |

Hey, I have sources for reproduction fabric that goes from Victorian to Art Nouveau to Deco to A & C and to FLW. I have copied the location of the pages that refer to Arts & Crafts.
Here are the pages: This one only does the fabric: Nouveau and Mission Fabrics Featured on this page, you will find a collection of modern fabrics, created from period Art Nouveau AND Arts & Crafts designs. A COMPLIMENT TO CRAFTSMAN FURNITURE AND DESIGNS BY Frank Lloyd Wright, Rennie Mackintosh, Greene and Greene, and Gustav Stickley. This one does drapes: Archive Edition "source for fine woven Arts and Crafts, Bungalow, and Mission upholstery fabrics recreated to capture the spirit of the Arts & Crafts era." They work especially well with the English William Morris, and Voysey styles, Greene & Greene, Aesthetic Movement, Art Nouveau, Hoffman Austrian Wiener Werkstatte, Secessionist, Craftsman, Rustic, Prairie, California Spanish Mission, Art Deco, Victorian and even contemporary interiors. Fabric is available by the yard for upholstery, drapery, bedspreads, or pillows, and we offer a variety of handsome custom-sewn merchandise items. This one has a wonderful peacock feather design: Pendleton Woodworks It also talks about Morris fabric and wallpaper. Here is another site that does reproduction curtains: http://www.achome.co.uk/curtains/curtains.htm Curtains for Sale We have the largest selection of Vintage Arts & Crafts curtains for sale in the world. From original William Morris curtains and blinds to later Liberty curtains and blinds and Sanderson William Morris curtains. We also stock and supply Arts & Crafts Wallpaper and Fabric, Liberty Fabric and Wallpaper, and William Morris Wallpaper and Fabric which can be included in a period or contemporary interior. We have Vintage Arts & Crafts cushions, and Vintage Arts & Crafts sofas, settees and chairs. Good luck and have fun. There is a lot of choose from out there. Bev. {fixed broken links} |
