Hi all, sorry for the dumb question but I'm hopeless with textiles, thankyou for your patience Smile

I have lots of clothes which I wish to dye. I understand that polyester (I think thats the name) can't be dyed (which I'm very upset about so if you know of ANY way to dye it I'd like to know- even if it means paying loads and traveling)

But my main query is that I bought some Dylon machine dye (Black) and I have several T shirts I put in with the black dye. The t shirts are all made of like the same material. As far as I know its cotton, although its a little more stretchy. I think the name is cotton jersey? I don't know, its not like white shirt cotton.

One tshirt was olive green, one beige, one dark brown, one dark blue, one red.

I made sure there was enough dye for the weight of all the t shirts and then followed all the instructions correctly. but to my horror, when the cycle had finished;

they all came out sort of, medium grey, and the dark brown one was still dark brown. on 3 of them, the stitching had remained white as it was originally! I have no idea why! please help! I wanted them to be jet black!

What is my best course of action (if there IS one) now. Do I or should I have bleached them and then put more dye on, should I use a soak dye instead of a machine one, should I just use another machine one, should I take them somewhere to be dyed... what should I do!

thanks for any advice and help! x

Hi. I sent you a private email regarding your question with what I hope is a helpful suggestion. Unfortunately, it's outside the scope of our forum discussion. Best regards, Rikki
