we are trying to decide what type of light fixture to go with in our dining room, unfortunately some one took the original out years ago, grrr.
I love the large oak slag shades but they can make a room feel smaller, the 4 arm brass mission style fixtures with art glass are also nice.
I will be getting an antique not a reproduction there are plenty to chose from, whats the right one? any thoughts?

Here are some historic images of A&C dining rooms/livingrooms with chandeliers for inspiration.

That's a beautiful room? May I ask what paint color you have chosen for the walls?

Thanks,
Tess

That may not be authentic to the period, but I think it goes quite well. In the picture, anyway.

This is a fixture I picked up at a flea market a number of years ago. I rewired and installed it in our dining room. Original lighting at a reasonable price is getting harder to come by these days.

All examples indicated a light fixture that had a light source that pointed down onto the table rather than up to difuse light off of the ceiling. I think that is proper for the dining room as opposed to say a living room where you are not really spotlighting anything in particular this would also be true for a foyer.

A couple of sites I came across while looking for outdoor lights:

Hammerton.com and Historiclighting.com both sell a variety of reproduction fixtures and with some shopping you can save some money on the fixture of your choice.

Well after a long seach I found my light at a local antique light dealer is ST Paul. I'm very happy with my antique fixture(new to me) I hope its close to what may have been in my home.
