This is a really cool tall, gray and blue aztec Rosville vase. It has not bids. $80 is more than reasonable for this style. This style goes for a lot more at on-line Antique stores.

It is 10.5 inches high and about 2.75 inches in diameter.

It is being sold as an on-line auction item with a 17.5% buyers premium.

The aztec series seems to be fairly rare. You seldom see duplicates out there.

sorry, here is the link. It did sell.

http://cgi.liveauctions.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...=300112038657&rd=1,1

It sold for $130 but the estimate was $850-$1,100. The bids all came from the floor of the auction not E-bay.

That seller always has outrageous estimates and they have numerous items that they've been running repeatedly for ages. I've assumed that they had correspondingly ridiculous reserves but maybe not. Maybe the stuff doesn't sell because, like in my case, those high estimates discourage bidding.

I think goantiques is just a service that you sign up for to sell your stuff, hence the thousands of items listed. The estimates are their way of trying to hype the item and hence generate a higher commission.

Stonecat,

I'd wondered about that. I thought it seemed like it was some kind of a consignment arrangement.

Here is another Roseville Aztec with a high opening bid of #249. No bids, again. It has two flaws--places where there is no glaze.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1601...ame=ADME:B:WNA:US:12

It is 10 1/4 inches tall with a 4 inches diameter. Great design, lousy opening bid.

I've noticed some of the auction houses are inflating estimates to try and get more people to list their items. I notice real estate brokers doing the same thing with houses by telling you that it's worth more than what it actually will sell for just to get the listing. It's a shame, although your vase may have well sold for more if they put it in front of the right people.

{no link dropping, thanks}
