Hi I found this at a garage sale on our neighborhood. The man said it is a real satsuma teapot. It has a stamp on the base. I love the way he lovingly and delicately restored the teapot(he was a very patient man). Is this worth keeping?

Hello Friend,
Having looked at the tea pot I can see that it is indeed worth keeping if for nothing else than to have for a conversation piece.
However I am not sure if it is an A&C period tea pot and not being much of an authority on such a beautiful pot I would say don't throw it away because if it pleases you it may also please others.

You might take it to an appraiser to help find a value on it.

Respectfully,

Ralph Jones

Technically, we can probably embrace Japanese art and crafts (from 1885 to 1925) as well as gardening within the A&C movement. When Japan opened to the West in the middle of the 19th century, Western artists and designers were profoundly inspired by the Japanese tradition. In fact, Frank Lloyd Wright's Prairie style is heavily influenced by the Asian aesthetic.

Your Satsuma teapot is really pretty. We aren't appraisers though. Ralph is right; you should probably see if it's value holds even with the repairs and someone who knows the market is your best resource.

For more information about Satsuma pottery, there's a nice site with enough info to get you started at http://www.satsuma.co.nz/.

Best,
Rikki

Hi there, thanks for the advice, I think I will keep it. Photobucket is indeed a good way to share photos!
