I was wondering if anybody could help me identify a mark. It is an incised, primitive looking bird inside a rounded diamond shape. The clay is reddish, indicating it may be from the Ohio area. I found the vase in the San Francisco area. If anybody can help, I would really appreciate it. I have pics of the mark and vase that I can email to you if it would help.
Thanks a million!

A couple thoughts: my understanding is baked Ohio clay is yellow not reddish and it would be helpful to post a pic of the piece including the bottom. Mac

Here are some pics, maybe these will help. I have consulted several pottery identification guides and spent hours on the internet trying to find out about this mark without success. Help!

Nevermind, I guess that didn't work. I will try to start a photo album with pics of the vase and mark.

Thanks for posting the pics. I have checked my books and came up zero. My gut says studio pottery although I could be very wrong here. The mark reminds me of marks I have seen on a site of English pottery marks. You may want to look at:
potterymarks.co.uk/index.html

Thanks for your help Mac. I did look at that UK pottery marks site, and it wasn't there. I'll try my luck at researching studio pottery marks. Thanks again!
