I have some pottery items and the only mark on the bottom is "USA". I've checked Kovel's book and can find no reference to it. Can anyone identify the mark?

USA was used by several makers I believe, and McCoy is just one of the best known. I have a couple pieces marked USA that were made on contract for Brush Pottery by the Carson Crockery Co. under the style name of Coronado Art Pottery - hows that for confusing?

A good source for help is

You can email them pictures for help.

Items marked with only the mark of origin are going to be generic type items where the maker was not concerned about identifying themselves as the makers. Much like finding an item marked "Made in Japan". It would be impossible to tell who made it unless there were an additional maker's mark. Some period catalogues may give a clue to the manufacturer and that would take hours of research to try to make a match with your item and you would need to have access to these catalogues.

This site has an excellent discussion of USA marks on pottery.

"I removed the apostrophe (')from your link so it would work.
I was unable to find the discussion on USA marks."

Greetings,
Without seeing pics of your pieces it is hard to tell who the maker is. Baby shoes sounds McCoyish to me. Often pieces had paper labels which eventually come off. Fellow posters here are correct, USA marks can be found on many makers. Mac
