Check out this new seller on Ebay: arttile2000
arttile2000 He's making some awesome hand carved tiles, limited editions, artist signed: oak trees, lily pads, dragon fly, birds, poppies. He's also got some mission style cuerda seca glaze painted designs. The price is right--until the rest of the world discovers him--and the talent is incredible. If A&C tiles are your thing, then this is certainly worth checking out. |

His work is pretty awesome! Check out Door Pottery for some great tiles. I collect Ephraim Pottery myself, but with their cancellation of their tile line the prices have become outrageous on Ebay - $50.00 tiles are now selling for $200.00 and up - so I'm looking into other possibilities to feed my A&C tile addiction.

The oak grove tile is just beautiful. It is perfect for an arts and craft fireplace--kind of a keystone/center piece. I wish I had a fireplace that needed just that tile.
Thanks for the heads up. If you like bas relief sculpture--here is a gentlemen that works in cast bronze metal, cast stone and started doing tile work. Lewellen Studio Phone - (360) 647-7050 studio@lewellenstudio.com http://www.lewellenstudio.com/index.htm His great blue heron series is wonderful. Bev. |

Bev,
Those Lewellen Studio tiles are great. I want to try and make hand chased and repoussed copper tiles and still have to find the time. I think tiles are a great way to accent a fireplace or even a wall... Framed or inset into the plaster or drywall. Fred Fred (Moderator) http://fredz49.blogspot.com/ |

Fred,
I believe that Lewellen uses tht lost wax method for casting the bronze. I do not think that he does any chasing or repousse work. They are thick pieces. Once the metal is cast, it becomes brittle and difficult to move the metal without damage. Reposse (working from the back of the piece) and chassing (hammering from the front) work best on thinner metals that can be manipulated from either side. (This info is for those who need a little more knowledge to understand what we are talking about.) It has been a long time since I have done any metal work--so I may be all wrong. You are probably skilled enough to disprove my theories. I never set up my own silversmith shop after art school--too many interests and not enough money to fund all different types of art that I liked. Are you doing any metal work now? Bev. |
