I'm trying to infuse more of the c & s design elements into our home. Wondering if anyone knows of a place where there is info on pickets and designs used on porch railings

First off, where is your 1930s bungalow? What city?? Can you send me a photo? THere are a gazillion (okay, 40,000) kit homes in California that were made by a California company, Pacific Ready-Cut Homes.

PRCH was a Los Angeles based company that sold about 40,000 kit homes in and around California. Even a certain well-known TV host got it wrong when he did a 13-episode series on the restoration of a "Sears Kit Home" in Studio City, California.

Everyone on the show kept calling the little side-gabled home a "Sears Crescent" and while it did bear a slight resemblance to the Crescent, it wasn't a really good match.

Turned out, the "Sears Crescent" was a kit home from Pacific Ready Cut Homes. In other words, it seems like almost no one has heard of this very significant company.

Southern California is loaded with kit homes from this Los Angeles firm. And more to the point (shameless self-promotion here), Dale Wolicki and I have published a book called "California's Kit Homes" which has some history on Pacific Homes and is also a reprint of their 160-page, 1925 kit home catalog.

That book will have gobs of pictures of 1920s bungalows and will probably have ideas and images that will help you create (or re-create) an age-appropriate porch railing.
