I found a trademark on the back of a brass hinge in my house. It is a small heart with the letters "sw" inside it. Does anyone know anything about this? Or know a site that helps identify marks?
Thanks |

The hinge would be from "Stanley Works" today the Stanley Corporation. According to "Answers.com" the company was founded in 1843. William Hart joined the company in 1854 and stayed with them until 1918. Under his direction they received numerous patents including several for hinges.
Here is the quote from their site regarding hinges: "Although William H. Hart was the central figure in the rise of The Stanley Works--the company's trademark was heart-shaped for a time--Stanley survived his departure. By the time Hart retired as chairman in 1918, he had created a corporate culture and strategy conducive to continued growth." http://www.answers.com/topic/the-stanley-works?cat=biz-fin |
