Hi all. Does anybody have any suggestions of how to remove, stuck-on, melted on tar paper from a hard wood floor. I know a drum sander will take it off, but the sand paper will clog up really fast.
Thanks |

mineral spirits/paint thinner should work but you may end up staining the wood black. how about a heat stripper just to soften it a bit?

Hi Joe,
First, try a test area in a corner or in a closet and see what works. If you use mineral spirts, what out for real bad headaches from the fumes. Make sure that every door and window is open. Also, both are very flamable and you may have problems with gas furnaces, gas hot water heaters and gas stoves or gas cooktops. For your information, artists that paint in oils these days have the option of using odorless turptine or mineral spirits which thins oil paint and keeps their brushes in good shape. Hope this helps. Here is the information from a company I use for my art supplies. Bev. Odorless Turpenoid 32 Oz Turpenoid is perfect for use with oil paint because it thins and removes paint from your brushes and other painting supplies with far less fumes than traditional paint solvents. Available in Odorless or Natural, choose one for your oil painting supply. http://www.cheapjoes.com/art-supply/OT1684_7843_odorless-turpenoid-oz.asp • 23.1k Gamblin Gamsol Gamblin Gamsol Gamblin Gamsol 128 OZ Item ID - GA00099 Gamsol, Odorless Mineral Spirits is an excellent solvent for thinning Gamblin mediums and for general oil painting techniques. It can also be used for removing oil paints from your paint brushes. »More ... http://www.cheapjoes.com/art-supplies/7850_gamblin-gamsol.asp • 30k |

Thanks for the ideas!! I'll let you know how it turns out. I read a few sites that suggested just wetting the paper...but this looks to be on there pretty good....
