OK, I admit it, I love scrounging stuff from the dump. One day I ran into a guy I work with and he asked what I was up to, I told him I was off with a load of trash then some scrounging. He thought for a sec then said " I'm not busy, I'll come with you", we've been friends ever since.
I assume anyone into home restoration is on the lookout for good salvage. Tell me about any good dump scores or something you got before an old building was razed.
One day we found a section of scaffolding, as in both ends. A few weeks later while helping a guy clean out his yard I found a set of X braces, scaffolding complete!
I scrounge a lot of pallet wood as well, not cabinet grade but some neat hardwoods can be had.
Bricks, tons of em, I've built a front sidewalk lined flower beds and use them around the base of trees.

Not really dump stories but scrounging stories nonetheless:

I was visiting my sister and she asked me to take a bag of trash to the curb; as I was walking down the driveway, the neighbour on the other side of the street was walking an antique steamer trunk to the curb...enough said..

I was out for a bike ride one night, and while riding home I saw an early 1800's pine washtand at the curb with someone's garbage; since I couldn't carry it I raced home on the bike and raced back in my truck...enough said..

Around the corner from my place I was driving back to my old work place after lunch, and there was a mid-century modern chrome stool sitting in someone's garbage...enough said..

...and then of course all the great stuff found at garage sales...

It's a lot of fun , I get quite an adrenalin rush from it. Actually, the scaffolding I referred to, Buddy had to guard it while I went and got rid of the stuff in the truck. Some of the locals were bearing down on it. Smile
