I just learned
another Prairie School designed house on my block faces the wrecking ball soon. Just a couple of years ago a George W. Maher house was "accidently" torn down and replaced with luxury condominiums. How do you "accidently" tear down a George W. Maher house?(!)...lol This is how. Fall of the Mellor House vol. XIV NO.4 FALL/WINTER 2003-4 Some "funny business" going on with the alderman, the community council and the developers. This house has been perfectly kept up. The lot value has exceeded the value of the house. RiCO ![]() |

This multiple luxury condominium building replaced the George W. Maher house that once stood across the street. At $500,000.00 a unit!
And that might be good for me one might say but I dont think that it should be at the cost of our historically rich architecture. RiCO ![]() |

A close up of the entrance. As you can see this neighborhood is going up, literality vertically!
Edgewater is the most densly populated community in the city of Chicago. And most ethnically diverse. You can walk down the street and notice people in their cultural attire, speaking many languages. RiCO ![]() |
