I have a piece of Limbert furniture, not sure what to call it - I guess it would be considered a buffet. I would like to know more about it since I can not find a picture of it on any antique websites. I would appreciate all input on this item and its possible value (it is a little damaged). I really don't know all the correct terminology to describe this piece. It does have the same brand inside the drawer as shown for the china cabinet that is pictured in another post. Thanks for your help.

Hello Katie,
Welcome to the Arts and Crafts Society and we hope you return often as there is a lot to be learned from any one of these forums. Now for your piece you were correct in calling it a buffet as well as some would call it a sideboard for in an essense they are basically the same. Only some have less grandure than the one you posted. We frown on making any type of a value on any piece or groups of pieces and recommend that you contact a professional appraisor. Respectfully, Ralph Jones www.ralphjoneswoodworking.com |

It may be branded Limbert, but it is a late piece, outside the designation of the Arts & Crafts period. The value, well, it would sell at an Arts & Crafts auction. Rago or Toomey would not sell it. The value is much lower because it is a later piece. As Ralph said, better to get an appraiser. But value on a piece like this is largely based on what someone would pay for it. Simply as a decorative piece, and not for any historic reason. Even if it is Limbert.

I meant to say, it wouldn't sell at an Arts & Crafts auction.
