I just saw a listing with a Roycrofters chair which stated the "correct" leather was used in the seat replacement. I know they meant thickness, not so much as the type or color of leather.

Are there any references as to what was or is the standard for the major manufacturers then? I know the look should be on the dull side and no outrageous graining for the leathers. Colors were muted then? or were they basic browns and reds? I think a dark green was used?

I have seen the use of less than appropriate leathers or fabrics on a lot of chairs and I have a couple to recover and want to find the correct leathers for. I know antiqued and pull up leathers have an old worn look to compliment the age of the chairs.
