I RECENTLY PURCHASED A TRESTLE TABLE IN EXCELLENT CONDITION WITH WHAT LOOKS LIKE ORIGINAL FINISH--48" LONG X 30 " WIDE X 29 " HIGH. THE PAPER LABEL IDENTIFIES IT AS A MICHIGAN CHAIR COMPANY TABLE. I AM NOT TOO FAMILIAR WITH THIS MANUFACTURER--ANYONE HAVE ANY INFO ON THEM AND ALSO AN APPROXIMATE VALUE???

Hi, and welcome to the forum. The Michigan Chair Company started out as the Grand Ledge Furniture Company, around 1890. Like several other furniture manufacturers of the area, they took advantage of the enormous amount of lumber available in the state of Michigan.
They sold a wide array of mission style furniture, and over 1,000 styles of chairs, available at the same time. After the Arts and Crafts Era went out of fashion, they produced revival pieces of earlier sheraton, William and Mary, Queen Anne styles, etc. They closed up during the Great Depression, and re-opened shortly after W.W. II. The company had plants in Grand Ledge, and later in Grand Rapids. They are still in operation, having found great success in the steam bending process of furniture making. I hope you continue to participate in this forum, your input is greatly appreciated. Thanks. Tim |

Jon,
Michigan Chair Company According to the Grand Rapids Public Library archives the Michigan Chair Company began in 1890 the company closed in 1938, reopened in 1946 but closed permanently in 1972. Michigan Chair Company paper label. The company manufactured pieces in many styles and was in business for about 40 years. We'd appreciate a photo of your table and can venture some *opinions* on approximate value but the chair should be seen by a professional apraiser in your area for the best estimate of its value. Game table up for auction at Rago this week. Lauren |

Good Evening All,
Now these forums are starting to function as a well organized forum should and it pleases me as I am sure the owner of these forums and the more conversations that we have will bring others here to find out about different pieces and learn something in the long run. Respectfully, Ralph http://hometown.aol.com/ralj7/index.htm |
