I just watched a similar pair (4 stack) go for $2825 + shipping on ebay. YMMV

I have 2 Globe Wernicke barrister bookcases.
One labeled 398 and one labled 598- both D- 10 1/4
what are they worth, and is anyone interested in purchasing them?

Please respond to fjz38@yahoo.com

Thanks

Hi,

We are looking for some more information on this bookcase that I aquired from a family member. It has been in the family for quite some time and is a bit worn. Here is what we know....

Sections have gold Macey stamp with information 911 Finish 8

Base is Globe Wernicke made in Cincinnati standard c-d leg base pattern 147 grade 198

Can someone shed some light on value and maybe year it was made?

Hello have recently aquired a Macey double-wide Mission Oak 8-door Arts n Crafts Bookcase. First wondering if there is someone from whom I could purchase the little mission Oak knobs for the door fronts (four of which are missing), and also there aren't any legs on the base otherwise in excellent shape, the Mullioned door fronts are fantastic the bookcase itsself is in excellent workings condition, the patina from over the years if nice. Inside marked Macey 11-8 & 11-10 & 11-12. Thx for your time.

Hello Friend,
You may find the pulls you requested through Van Dykes Restoration catalog.
www.vandyke.com

Then for the base with the legs, they could be made by a compitant craftsman.

Email me at Ralj7@AOL.com I will be able to help you.

Respectfully,

Ralph Jones

I am not sure I posted my question in the right place last time. Can anyone help me with information about my Wernicke bookcases? They are size C11 grade 198. The drawer base has C11 198 670 with a lot of pre 1900 patent dates. The top has Wernicke System Elastic bookcase in gold on the front edge. The top and drawer base are very unusual. The drawer base is square and has a ledge. The top is much fancier than the other Wernicke tops that I have seen. Some sections say Globe Wernicke while others just say Wernicke. But they all match. I believe that they may be very early bookcases. Does anyone have any information about this model Wernicke bookcase? I am posting a couple of pictures of the set. Thanks!

I solicit your help in locating the correct (or any for that matter) handles for a GW file cabinet that I refinished recently. After retiring from teaching my employer gave me the cabinet... it has one original handle. I have had no luck locating a replacment locally or online. Any leads out there? TIA

Hello GW Antiquers.

I am actively looking to purchase 41" - GW stacking sections. MOST desired are DESK unit & BIG Drawer bases. Prefer OAK #1, Mahogany OK.

I am *NOT* looking for any SMALL drawer card catalog sections.

GW stacking filing cabinet & drawer units are 41" wide sections by 13", 17" and 25" deep varieties. I prefer panelled sides. Older are all flat sides, but less desireable.

Fair market value = $100 & up++, depending on condition and specific section. Consider buying any quantity. Send description of your sectional units to dennisd499@knology.net.

Happy antiquing

I have a question about a Globe-Wernicke purchase I recently made. I am completely new to antiques. I just came across this item and loved it. It had been taken out of a library and it is a library card catalog file cabinet with the bookcase type cabinet on top. I am gathering from this post that the card catalog file cabinets are less valuable that the barrister type bookcases - is that correct? Can anyone give me any idea as to the value of this piece? I will try to post a photo. I did not take a photo of the label, but it does say Globe-Wernicke.

Hi,

I'm new to this forum and wanted to find out about the history and general value of a globe wernicke file cabinet I picked up recently. I paid $30 for it. It is a 2 drawer file cabinet (and fits legal sized files). It says "globe wernicke" on a metal label on the front, and is in very good condition (a couple of scratches on the top). It is very heavy and the drawers work great and appear to be able to take however much weight I put into it!

The inside label says:

Globe Wernicke Company
Cincinatti, Ohio

Stock #
422-C Uprights

Finish #s:
448 1/2 Gen. Wal.

Can anyone help in terms of when it was manufactured, and its rough value? When did GW stop making file cabinets?

I needed a filing cabinet, and even if it has little value, I'm happy because I needed a couple filing drawers and it works and looks great! So much better than the particle board cabinet stuff at an office store.

My guess is no. I get some good repros or maybe originals on ebay. And that shouldn't set you back very much.

Hello Folks,
I would like to welcome all of you new users to our Arts and Crafts Society and we wish you to come back as often as you can.
There was one on here who wondered why the post was put in one category, it was in order to have all of the listings in one location rather than helter skelter all over the place and also it give us and you a chance to see the different pieces that are in the same category.

There are many things on these forums that will keep you coming back often and most of our older members will be glad to help you in any way we can.

One thing that we don't do is to offer a value of any piece but, instead ask you to check with an appraiser in your area.

Respectfully,

Ok, so I've read this entire thread beginning to end and I have 2 questions.

First, I have some very different Pattern and Grade numbers which I have yet to see mentioned. The pattern is 813 and the grade is 3017 1/2. Does anyone know what this means and what kind of wood it could be.

Secondly, someone mentioned that the 3000 grade serious was post-depression but also mention that the way the sections were joined could determine whether it was post/pre- depression. The set is a 3000 grade series but the way they are stacked are not the metal grommets but the long would slats. Anyone have any input as to whether is was pre- or post- depression?

Thanks so much
Crystal
