I have a set of Globe-Wernicke barrister bookcases, Catalog # 3313-B. G. D. -12 (1 unit) and Catalog # 3313-B. G. D.-16 (2 units)
The " scissors" type mechanisim seems to be intact, but un-assembled. It consists of 3 metal links, joined by two rivets. They apparantly slide within a series of "eye" hooks. It does not seem that complicated, but I can't seem to get it to operate properly. I may be missing some "stops" that might prevent the doors from traveling too far. I saw a posting of a photo of these cases on the forum. Is there a diagram that show the correct assembly? Perhaps someone could take a photo of a working unit? Thanks |

Here's how my set works. I don't know if this helps. My mechanism is a cross shape with a single pivot rivet in the centre. I have a couple units with the cross pieces missing but they still work, just sliding on the roller bearing in each top corner. The cross or scissor is just to keep the door more or less square as you open and close it, so without it it just binds a bit if you open or close it on a bit of an angle. You could try it this way, to see if it works for you. If you need parts there is a guy on eBay who sells restoration parts - check Antiques>furniture>bookcases

Dear Stonecat, found the Ebay guy, he had rollers, knobs, labels & special 3/8 " long screws that don't pierce the case. He had them custom made and stocks them for re-sale. Also had a selection of track and hinge parts that were salvaged. Don't want to sound like I'm advertising for him in this forum, but he was a good resource for restoration and repair parts.
Thanks again, Sam |
