I recently purchased an arm chair with a hard seat. I've found where it was signed (on the back below the seat on the left side). The outline of the shop mark looks like a bat with outstretched wings. Think batman's logo...but it's just the outline. Any clue? Anyone? I don't think a photo will come out because it is faint. It's not something I recognize at all. I appreciate it if anyone has any suggestions.
Also, at the same auction I purchase a Lifetime rocker that has the original paper label. It has an inlaid wood patern on the back and around the seat. It wasn't in my catalog. Has anyone seen anything like that before? Thanks for any help. Bill |

Good Morning Bill,
You can find many a piece that is labeled or branded that will not be found in any books that I have come across as yet but, that is not to say the pieces do not have any value. I am working on a hall bench with a storage compartment under the lid where the maker placed his mark and date by the use of a nail or nail set but that doesn't mean that it has no value. Folks seem to think that if a piece is not by someone famous then it's value is not worth much but, I beg to differ with them as any and all products will have value and never make it to the books. Hey Ralph: I agree about shop marks and value. The lack of a shop mark doesn't bother me. But for me, figuring it out is part of the fun. And when I saw what appeared to be a shop mark in the shape of the "batman" logo, it really piqued my curiosity.
BTW, I love the forum. Bill |
