This is the first Rose Valley piece I've ever seen on eBay - finishes tonight, we'll see what happens. Rose Valley was an Arts & Crafts 'Utopian' community that only had a handful of craftsmen making furniture, and from what I've read they made maybe 500 pieces total. Pieces incorporate lots of gothic like carving but its all hand done so this keeps it in the A&C realm.

The question here of course is, is this a true Rose Valley piece or not ??? The mark is "correct" but is it original ???

Not sure if it is original - I don't really even know much about Rose Valley. Do you have more info? Is there more info on the web or do you have old auction listings? Does it usually go really high? Did they make a full line - tables, chairs, stools etc?

The bookrack went for $1000.00, so I guess that qualifies it as 'high'.

Here's the link to the Rose Valley Museum which as far as I can tell is not a physical place, its just the website.

http://www.rosevalleymuseum.org/index.html

I belive a bunch of the buildings are, or were threatened to be torn down, based on some activity and discussion here on the forum but nobody followed up to say what has happened.

There's not much info on the web other than the museuem (a few links on the museum site). I have bits an pieces in other books and I think some old auction results I might dig up. A search of past sales from the last few years at Rago's only gives 7 hits including 3 pieces of furniture, a cabinet and a couple benches. Some of their work is spectacular based on the carving effort (I'll look for good pics). I would call them first tier based on the community that they developed as a reflection of the core philosophy. They also did other things as you can see on the museum site.

Yes, that is certainly high! Thanks for sending the museum web site. They have quite a bit of info that is a good introduction to Rose Valley and listings of books that have more information. The furniture looks impressive but not typical A&C. They give an explanation of how it fits into the A&C style. Thanks!
